History
Settlement in the area began around 1695. Norfolk was originally part of Dedham and later part of Wrentham. Over time, small farms, orchards, sawmills, and gristmills developed in the region.
In the early 1800s, industrial activity grew with cotton mills built near Stony Brook, followed by a paper mill at Highland Lake that produced wrapping and building paper.
The opening of the Norfolk County Railroad in 1849 brought a station to the area known as North Wrentham, leading to increased growth. In 1870, North Wrentham separated from Wrentham and was officially incorporated as the town of Norfolk.
